They don't go around (so far) checking your guns at every shooting range but you never know. I guess one option is to buy 2 of the same gun: one registered (for practice) and another (or two) unregistered and hidden gun(s) (for use after the round up).<br /><br />Rifles and shotguns do not need to be registered so it's possible to buy them out of state (not that I would condone such an action, mind you). But California is known to have sting operations in Nevada (and probably other neighboring states) and catch CA resident as soon as they cross the state line.<br /><br />Another option is to go with black powder guns which (even in CA) you do not need any background checks for.
