He is an older man and was lying on the floor, as demanded, having given his wallet to the four hoodlums who entered with shotguns, part of their crime spree doing the same MO throughout the area. His wife and other patrons were also on the floor, having also complied with all demands. As the four men left, the leader turned and fired his shotgun at our friend, for absolutely no reason. He survived but will never be the same, after 16 surgeries, chronic pain, disfigurement, speech problems, etc. etc. They caught the animals but so what. Now he also has to return to court multiple times to testify against each one.

I visited the shop from the oustide and looked in. No cover, no good options. The lessons I took away...ALWAYS sit facing the door, always be in at least condition yellow in a public place, always be ready to make a split second decision. I'm not sure that the best pistolero could have made it through this one. You would instantly have to decide to shoot four heavily armed people, the last three in line single file, perhaps, but through glass and with poor visibility in the parking lot at nite. Our friend now carries a little .380 but I don't think that would have been enough that night either. This was one of those wrong place/wrong time situations every one worries about.Stevenoreply@blogger.com
