The piece was written in order to show as concretely as possible, and using characters with whom readers could identify, the absurdity of attempting to divide countries along ethnic lines. Unfortunetly (or fortunetly) many people here in the US believe what they see on television...that a car or a tree or a house's wall will protect them from gunfire.
