Riots in America: Secret Service agents wounded outside White House, Trump was taken to bunker

America is changing.
The racial tension was already there and has been getting worse these last few years.
Coronavirus added even more fuel, and the full economic impact of coronavirus plus the current civil unrest is still around the corner. You've had more than enough time to prepare, prepare for real. Prepare for THIS sort of thing. I hope everyone did.
The Skills you need so as to be ready for this "New normal" are precisely what I explain in "Street Survival Skills" https://amzn.to/2KxdbHe and "The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse" https://amzn.to/2lX5Tl

Radio for Preppers 101: Some Basic Concepts you Need to Know

Little intro vid on the topic of radios for those that dont know the first thing about them and are interested in learning more. The Baofeng UV-5R is the classic starting point, but dont forget about CB radios, FRS/PMR radios and something not mentioned all that much, a nice short wave radio.

Links for some of this stuff . The UV-5R is dirt cheap and a great starter HAM favored by most preppers, but for a couple more bucks you have units that are a lot nicer. A digital short wave radio is a must have in my opinion.

Coronavirus: Turns out Many Preppers Weren't that Well Prepared

Covid19 is exposing many weakness in people’s preps: A lack of certain supplies, masks and respirators but even food and ammo. Most of all, the poor physical preparedness of many, seriously overweight and in poor health, even the mental preparedness to make hard decisions and overcome tough times.

Quarentine Preparendess: 10 Things You Need to Know

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

Get your Preps, Gear and Supplies while you still Can!

As if it’s not obvious enough, time is running out. Get your preps while you still can.
Amazon BANS sellers shipping non-essential items to its warehouses and will prioritize food, diapers, household cleaning products, and pet and medical supplies
Just like toilet paper was taken for granted, the ability to just order anything online as you wish may be next.

Anything you believe you may be needing, if you do have the money for it and were considering buying it eventually, get it now. Get the last few things before it’s too late. I’ve been posting about respirators and masks for weeks. I cant post links to them any more becuase they are all gone now (unless you buy a two pack, 12 units left). Same for hand sanitizer and many other pandemic related preps.

You probably have guns but may be missing things such as optics and night vision goggles. Anything you were thinking about buying eventually, you may not be able to do it tomorrow, either because of Amazon or because the company building it is on lockdown.
Aimpoint Micro H-2 Red Dot Reflex Sight with Standard Mount - 2 MOA - 200185

ATN NVM14-4 Gen 4 Night Vision Multi Purpose Monocular
Prepare for the quarantine as well. Get some books. Of course I recommend my own books, my last one “Street Survival Skills” and “Survivng the economic Collapse”.

Get yourself some new videogames.

Red Dead 2, Witcher III GOTY, Zelda BOTW should keep you busy for a long time. If you have small kids and want to play with them, get Terraria, you'll thank me later.
I’ve been having a bit of fun today with my Food safer.
Foodsaver FSFSSL2244-000 V2244 Machine for Food Preservation with Bags and Rolls Starter Kit | #1 Vacuum Sealer System | Compact & Easy Clean | UL Safe, Single, Black
Preparing some of the extra food I have for long term storage, vacuum sealed. While at it, I used it to seal some ammo and clothes for the kits so as to make it more compact and waterproof.
Of course, if you don’t have enough food already, order lentils, rice and pasta. Don’t forget about food for your pets.

These are just a few things that come to mind. There's hundreds of others that may apply to yourself and your situation. Check my youtube channel, TheModernSurvivalist, I'll be talking about tihs some more.

Don’t believe for a second coronavirus won’t be hitting you as hard as it did in Italy. Its just a matter of time, and by that I mean a matter of days.

Coronavirus in America: What you need to Know & How to Prepare for It

Guys, I know many of you don’t like videos and prefer a short article. This time though, do try to take the time to watch it. I explain several key pieces of information you need to know so as to prepare for this pandemic, which is already on its way and it will eventually reach you, sooner than you think.

I address a few of the lies out there: It’s just a regular flu (no its not), respirators don’t work (yes they do) just wash your hands (that’s just one precaution, hardly the main form of transmission) .
You need certain supplies, which I’ve mentioned and linked to before but here it goes again, with the link in case you still need sot stock up.
Get yourself a Full-facepiece respirator (while you still can!) https://amzn.to/3cuRFyM
Get yourself meds for Cough & Cold, https://amzn.to/2TqIoAu
Advil (ibuprofen) https://amzn.to/2PKwtef
Tissue paper https://amzn.to/3cwIG0c
Nitrile gloves https://amzn.to/2VJcbG0
Laser Thermometer https://amzn.to/2TlssiG
Vitamin C for kids and adults https://amzn.to/2xbNCY6
Disinfectant Spray https://amzn.to/2TrvDpj
Hand sanitizer https://amzn.to/2PMrsSI
Duct Tape https://amzn.to/2VNew2v
You should have months worth of food already. Dont forget water!
For the economic crisis that will follows this mess, get  acopy of my first book "The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse", currently with a 10% discount. Get  acopy of "Street Survival Skills" while you're at it if you havent done so already.
While it is true that most people that get sick will get over it, especially younger, healthy people, many others will end up in ICU with pneumonia and many will die.
Best thing to do? Prepare, have the supplies listed above, so as to quarantine and shelter in place. If the situation calls for it, take the precautions you need when out running errands. Wear that respirator you bought, wear the gloves, use the hand sanitizer. Sleep well, try to lower your stress levels, work out and eat well to boost your immune system.

Coronavirus Impact: Bank stocks dive, JPMorgan off by nearly 4%

GS: JP Morgan Headquarters lobby silhouettes

Preparedness wise, on a pandemic level, we still need to see how things keep developing to know for sure how bad it will get.  Let’s keep an eye on the economic aspect as well. The impact of the pandemic is already huge and the worst is yet to come.

Stock up on the essentials while you still can. many cities are already seeing empty shelves. N95 respirators have mostly sold out by now, but you can still get 3M half-masks in Amazon, better yet, get the full face masks from 3M. Alcohol based hand sanitizer? Forget about it. Sold out and worth a fortune. Check the prices in Amazon if you have the stomach for it. A small bottle of Purell goes for like 40 bucks.

Even food is starting to sell out, fill any gaps you may have in your stockpile with bulk staples such as rice (Lundberg Wild Blend, 4 Pounds) Pet food is something else you should consider buying extra of.

I keep listing these things because I keep getting asked about them. People want to know which masks would work (the ones listed do, N95/FFP2 or better) and what else they should be getting. This is all classic preparedness gear most long term preppers have, but there's just not enough when everyone goes after it at the same time and prices and "out of stock" signs reflect that.
There's still time, but not much. Things are likely to get "complicated" soon in many places.
Good luck folks.

6 Lessons Learned from the 2019-2020 Australian Bushfires (...so far)

21 million acres have burned across Australia (mostly New South Wales) and over a thousand homes destroyed. The bushfires are regarded by the NSW Rural Fire Service as the worst bushfire season in memory,  with a death toll of 27 people and an economic cost of over $2 billion.
It’s a desperate situation for the people enduring it. It is also a disaster we can draw invaluable lessons from.

1) Evacuate!

The stories repeat themselves time and again. People that barely made it out. People that, all of a sudden without any idea of whats going on, where told to evacuate immediately. This Canadian family on vacations were told they just had 10 minutes to grab whatever they could and evacuate right away.
Do you have a bag ready to go?  Most Bug Out Bags you see have guns, outdoors and survival gear but are generally pretty short on passports, important documents, insurance papers, cash and at least some invaluable family heirlooms. Even laptops, tablets, these you need to communicate, send emails, read the news, access websites to fill up form, etc.

2) Have your Car Kit Ready
“In Batemans Bay, NSW, hundreds of families fled their homes Tuesday under an eerie orange sky. "It was like we were in hell," vacationer Zoe Simmons told CNN. "We were all covered in ash."”
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/12/30/australia/australia-mallacoota-beach-fire-intl-hnk-scli/index.html
As explained many times, you need to keep a kit in your car and part of that kit should include wet wipes, bottled water and spare clothes for each family member.

3) "Pyrocumulonimbus" Clouds are a Thing
The brushfires in Australia are growing and have become so massive and powerful that they're creating their own dangerous weather phenomenon. It happens through the formation of "pyrocumulonimbus" clouds — what NASA calls "the fire-breathing dragon of clouds." These fire-induced storms bring little rain but are packed with lightning that can spark new fires. A weather alert on Monday forecast the thunderstorms over the southern Australian province of Victoria.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fires-in-australia-pyrocumulonimbus-thunderstorm-clouds-victoria-sydney/
4) You May have to Leave your Car

At 1 a.m., the sky was bright and orange, with a glare from the fire that meant it was coming their way, Wegg said.
"It kept us up as it was also really cold which was odd from the hot day we had. The fire was heading in the direction of the parking lot. We all left our cars because the fire was coming to the campground," she said.
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/06/australia/australia-mallacoota-stranded-trnd/index.html
5) Have Tablet or extra Gadget with games to keep Kids Busy
For six days, the family slept on a crash mat, spending their time trying to keep the kids occupied. "We managed to get our iPad plugged in and the kids had some games and shows to play," she said.
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/06/australia/australia-mallacoota-stranded-trnd/index.html
6) Respirators, For crying out loud, Have Them
The Rule of Three exists for a reason. To remind us that without air, water, food and shelter you cant survive. Maybe the most unappreciated aspect is ironically the most vital one: Breathable air.
Woman with P2 mask
"Facemasks are the least useful measure, as a public health response," said Fay Johnston from the University of Tasmania's Menzies Institute for Medical Research.
"There's only one sort that actually helps — that's the P2 masks. They're the only ones that can filter out a meaningful level of air pollution."
https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2019-12-03/face-masks-for-bushfire-smoke-haze-pollution/11760618
These are the one mentioned in the article, FFP2 . Better yet, get a pack of FFP3 for the best protection in a folding respirator. Not cheap, but these are the ones I keep. Buy a pack, keep some in your car, EDC bag and other kits.

So as to understand better how respirators work and why ratings matter, you may also want to read:
https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/777827O/bushfires-3m-techupdate.pdf?fn=Bushfires%203M%20TechUpdate.pdf

Finally, heres a PDF worth downloading with some great points regarding Bushfire by the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience. Its nice and short with great tips from people with a lot of experience dealing with fire-related disasters.

US Strike Kills Iranian General: 3 Things to Watch Out For

What a way to start 2020...

US drone strike kills Iraqi general outside Baghdad ...
So what now?

1) As the Fox News says, oil prices are surging and stocks are already slipping.

2) This could easily turn into an all-out war, and it seems that thousands more troops are being deployed in the Middle East.
Fears of new conflict rise after US kills Qasem Soleimani, a top Iranian general, in strike on Baghdad airport

3) On a street/local level, terror attacks, lone wolfs, these are all more likely to occur now in response as they do at times, in retaliation. My latest Book, "Street Survival Skills", precisely addresses topics of street awareness, noticing suspicious behavior and various tactics to prepare for active shooters and terrorist attacks.

Happy 2020 everyone and stay Alert!

What Items do I keep Handy in my Car?

Guys! If you haven’t bought one already, grab a copy of my latest book “Street Survival Skills”  I go over a bunch of practical stuff including defensive driving skills, awareness while in the car and other great tips. I have no doubt, you'll love it.

Street Survival Skills: Tips, Tricks and Tactics for Modern Survival

I recently did a video about the topic, what car I consider well suited for my needs, the capabilities I’m looking for and also some of the stuff I keep handy in the cabin.

There’s really nothing out of the ordinary but it’s a system that has worked well for me over the years.

Big can of Pepper Spray
Sabre Red 52CFT30 Crossfire Stream (MK-4) Pepper Spray, 1.33% MC, 3.0 Ounces
Keep it handy, even if you have a gun… especially if you have a gun. Most wannabe badasses can be handled with a bit of OC spray, avoiding the terrible legal mess of explaining the use of lethal force.
I also keep one next to the front door in the house and a couple smaller cans my wife and I carry occasionally.

Anti-Theft Bar

Half Klingon Bat'leth battle axe, half anti-theft bar, this is the exact same one I have, as shown in the video.
Good for securing the car too. I guess the steering wheel itself can be cut, theres videos about it, but in my experience (as in someone breaking into my car and trying to steal it when I had one of these things in the wheel) They will just give up and go looking for a car that doesn’t have a bar. Usually they just see it and don’t even bother, go look a car without it.

A Good Flashlight

I keep a Thrunite similar to this one, 2000 lumens and its rechargeable via micro USB port meaning I can charge it using the phone charger kept in the car.

Victorinox Rescue Tool
Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Rescue Tool Jubilee
I keep it in the center glove compartment. If there’s an accident and everything flies in every direction, it stays in there and I know where to reach it. It’s a nice tool with glass breaker and seat belt cutter as well as a solid blade and big screwdriver. The burglar bar is no doubt a better glass (and skull) breaking tool given its weight but I still like having this one too.
Cheaper rescue tool? Go with the Resqme tool

Something else I’d love to have and I’ll keep an eye out during Black Friday:

There’s of course other gear I keep in the trunk in bags and will go through it in the next video.
Hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving with the family!

Winter Preparedness: Backup Heating Alternatives

I was recently talking with someone living in a cold climate region and the topic of backup heating came up. I remembered about an incident a few years ago when our oil burner broke and needed to be replaced. I had a tank full of heating oil but no burner…  in Ireland in the middle of winter. The house did have two fireplaces, but we soon found out that these were more for show than actual heating. What saved the day was an electric radiator and the couple kerosene heaters I had bought a while back.
Depending on where you live, heating may be a matter of inconvenience or a matter of life or death. In such a place, I want no less than two alternative heating methods besides the primary one normally used, plan B and C, just in case. You just never know. The heater or burner can break, power may go out, you may even be injured, too weak or too sick to go collect firewood. Always have a backup plan.
Here are some of the best alternatives.

I personally love Kerosene heaters. I love how simple they are. Nothing electronic going on, just a wick a fuel. Read up  (start here!) and learn as much as you can about them. Light them outdoors and give it about 30-60 minutes or so until it heats up very well for the first time so as to avoid any smells. Once its going though, its my favorite low tech heating method. You can get these on Amazon (and the radiant model shown is excellent) but honestly its just fun to go hunting for one in garage sales as well. Prices on these things when sold used is also very low (check the wick though, it probably needs a new one). Get one, keep a few gallons of kerosene and you'll be warm during storms and blackouts.

Also very simple and handy, preppers love these Buddy heaters and the larger Big Buddy units. They are portable and simple, and for those that dont like do mess around with kerosene, they do have less of a scent which even if minimal, it bothers some people. Here you are just burning propane and you dont have to light it outdoors. Make sure you have enough fuel. Better yet, get the adapter for it so as to use larger propane bottles.

DeLonghi Oil-Filled Radiator Space Heater, Quiet 1500W
Oil-Filled Radiator Space Heater. Your tipical electric radiator. They are simple and safe to use, not much can go wrong with these and as long as you have electricity you’ve got heat. Excellent for when something goes wrong with your main heating but you still have power.

Cheap and compact little units. Not as nice as radiators but handy as long as you have electricity.

HotHands Body & Hand Super Warmers
These are great for your kits, keeping in your car and BOB or even in your jacket, just in case.

5 Tips for Dealing with Protests, Riots and Civil Unrest

Given the current situation around the world we keep seeing more and more events where riots or volatile protests and demonstrations take place.

Having dealt with them more times than I care to remember, here's a video with some advice.

1) Stay the hell away. This is pretty obvious, but by far the most useful/valuable advice. Avoid the mess entirely.
2) Don’t confront. If you happen to see one of these proud liberal "woke" creatures, don’t talk to them, don’t interact. Nothing good can possibly come out of it. They certainly will NOT change their mind.
3) If driving, keep driving, don’t ever stop, don’t get out of the vehicle. Keep moving slowly and don’t let anger get the best of you, even if they kick or hit your car. Just not worth it.
4) Learn to estimate distances as explained in the video. If you can see the persons face and tell the skin color, you're too close. If you can see clearly clothes, backpacks and whatever it is they are carrying, you’re definitely too close!
5) Estimate the crowd and if the police is enough to deal with it if the protest becomes violent.

South America Falls Apart

Bolivia's Morales faces 11th day of protests

Chile

For those that may not know, I have a Spanish youtube channel, SupervivenciaModerna.
Lately, I’ve been getting hundreds of new subscribers each day, the channel has been growing a lot in the last few weeks.

The reason? I suspect current political events in the region have  a lot to do with it.
Bolivian President Evo Morales Resigns After Army Tells Him to Go

As I’ve said in previous occasions already, Latin America is going through some very tough times. Cristina Kirchner returns to power in Argentina, Lula is being released in Brazil, Chile is still burning and The now former president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, has just resigned and is escaping to Mexico as people took the streets and started going after the political class after the fraud elections recently held.

Tough times people.
