"Jumpbox" Jump Start System

Ferfal,
If a car or truck is part of your survival plan or for every day use in a post disaster area, then you would be smart to acquire a "jumpbox".
This is a small car battery sealed in a plastic case with jumper cables and 12V outlets that will jump start a vehicle.  You might have to get going in a hurry, or be stuck in a bad neighborhood with little time or safety to call an emergency service or get help from a stranger, so having your own jumpbox could be a lifesaver.  It can also double as an emergency power source (with an inverter) or a cel phone charger) with an Igo car adapter.  They can be charged at home with an adapter, or kept topped up through your vehicle's cigarette lighter.

Love your site.  Hope you find this useful.

Hi Marvin, that’s a pretty neat recommendation, thanks.
I can tell you that having car problems in most of the suburbs of Buenos Aires is a bad idea. Even in the main arteries such as highways and avenues you don’t want to be left on foot when you’re out of the safer capital district.
I like this Energizer All-in One model that, besides the jump starter itself, pretty much has all other things you could wish for: Two 12V cigarette sockets, a compressor, flex-neck work light and even a DC/AC Power inverter with a fan to prevent overheating.

Every one of these little guys I've ever bought failed to start the battery when I needed it. Maybe they're making them better nowadays.

My dad once had a big, cart-driven one that could hook up to another battery through the cigarette lighter to charge it. Worked like a charm, but it's so big you'd need a work van to take it with you.

You're right-the little ones, like the one Ferfal mentioned, probably won't work. I got the kind that car dealers use. It cost $200 and works on my F150 truck. If you spend less than $150, it's likely a waste of money.

Hi guys, the Amazon reviews for the product are pretty good, usually if a product isn't good the negative comments pile up fast. This is currently their best-selling jump starter. Then again I agree, its more for emergencies than heavy duty.
I liked that it has the compressor, light and inverter. This other model has even better reviews but is a bit more expensive and it has no compressor, light or inverter:

Ferfal,
I withdraw my misgivings about the Energizer jumpbox.I read the reviews on Amazon, and they were, as you said, very positive. One guy jumped his diesel truck, which is more stressful to a battery than an equivalent gasoline engine.

Never a problem starting the Lincoln Navigator's engine with a jump pack.

Remember to keep these puppies plugged in to the outlet to keep the internal lead-acid battery fully charged.

I have one. Just remember you need your own extension cord to charge it. It doesn't come with one.
