People, I can't begin to explain how serious this is

Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban

Attorney General Says White House Also Looking at Ban on 'Cop-Killer' Bullets

By JASON RYAN

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2009—

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.
"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.
Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.
"I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S.
Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S.
A State Department travel warning issued Feb. 20, 2009, reflected government concerns about the violence.
"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. "Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez."
At the news conference today, Holder described his discussions with his Mexican counterpart about the recent spike in violence.
"I met yesterday with Attorney General Medina Mora of Mexico, and we discussed the unprecedented levels of violence his country is facing because of their enforcement efforts," he said.
Holder declined to offer any time frame for the reimplementation of the assault weapons ban, however.
"It's something, as I said, that the president talked about during the campaign," he said. "There are obviously a number of things that are -- that have been taking up a substantial amount of his time, and so, I'm not sure exactly what the sequencing will be."

In a brief interview with ABC News, Wayne LaPierre, president of the National Rifle Association, said, "I think there are a lot of Democrats on Capitol Hill cringing at Eric Holder's comments right now."
During his confirmation hearing, Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee about other gun control measures the Obama administration may consider.
"I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller," Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual's right to own a weapon.
The Assault Weapons Ban signed into law by President Clinton in 1994 banned 19 types of semi-automatic military-style guns and ammunition clips with more than 10 rounds.
"A semi-automatic is a quintessential self-defense firearm owned by American citizens in this country," LaPierre said. "I think it is clearly covered under Heller and it's clearly, I think, protected by the Constitution."

This is the classic tyranny worksheet. Rise to power, promote an imagine of “divinity” and aura of greater power ( at least in the unthinking mass mentality), arising like an all knowing savior, get unquestionable loyalty.

And finally take the weapons away from the people.
Now they are no longer citizens, they are slaves.

Those are not “assault weapons”, my friends, not when they are used by law abiding citizens to protect their families and themselves.
“Freedom weapons” is a much more fitting name, since only free people are allowed to own them.
Do not give up your rights!

Stop reading this and write right now to your legislator and representatives.
Write to the white house as well.

Let them all know that you will not accept this in any shape or form!

I've been commenting and reading for much of the morning when this came out. It's got me worried. I mean, already the drug lords are crossing the border and kidnapping people...AMERICAN CITIZENS. How can we defend ourselves if the weapons are taken away from us? Instead of pointing fingers, blaming the United States, we need to secure our borders already. People in the US cannot be supplying the drug lords with automatic weapons and grenades because the average citizen does not have access to them. Instead of worrying about enacting new gun laws, we should just enforce what is there now and secure the borders. Problem solved. Instead, these liberals are trying to make it seem like they're doing something to appease their like-minded people. Instead of doing something that means nothing, they should really sit down and do something that will truly benefit humanity.

You cant.
You can’t defend yourself from tyrants without semi auto center-fire rifles. That the whole point. And that’s why O wants to ban them.
He smells troubles ahead and wants an unarmed population that is easy to control.
They did that in Germany, they do it in communists countries, our K government is doing it here in Argentina, DON’T LET THAT HAPPEN IN AMERICA.
I’m very serious about his. Not one step back, don’t let them take ANY guns away from you, or get any of them banned.

So if they ban the weapons inside the US, then this will stop the US Arms industry from selling these weapons in other countries?

Is Obama going to shut down Colin Powell and other arms dealers that distribute weapons of all over the world to anyone that can afford them?

Will the USA cease to be the world's #1 arms dealer?

This doesn't address the problem, but it certainly makes for fine talking points.

This is worse then the news says. Most of rifle ammo is considered to be cop killer meaning it can penetrate their vests. They are after that too.

This prick of a president was quite about it ever since the supreme court ruling. Now he is starting his shit all over again. I don't intend to let him. Even though I live in NY I will be calling all the congressman who vote for this.

Well, I know everyone in my circle called up and screamed at our elected officials not to pass a bailout. It was still passed. A "scientific" poll was evidently conducted by CBS of 1,100-something people that said they supported the bailout. Well, CNBC posted a poll after Rick Santelli made a big rant about the mortgage bailout. Within 24 hours after the poll was posted, there were almost 250,000 people who voted and well over 94% were in favor of a new Tea Party (ref to Boston Tea Party, pre-Revolution). (Link: http://www.cnbc.com/id/29283701/) They took down the actual poll, but it was pretty obvious what people actually think. Compare that to what the politicians actually DO and they are diametrically opposite...

So, in order to help Mexico's fight against the narco terrorists, (and use fully automatic weapons, not the semi-auto version availiable to most Americans) Obama wants to erode our rights as Americans. Boy, that makes sense. Keep in mind, AK-47s and M16s are made under license in many places in the world; Mexico cannot even keep it's own police forces clean, how are they going to keep from smuggling weapons on Mexico's own coastline??
Also, the Assult weapons ban did not result in a decrease in crime, mainly because they are almost never used in crime.
I promise you, that if law abiding civilians in the US lose the right to bear arms, the criminals sure won't have any trouble aquiring them.

I've written honestly a few times but keep deleting it - perhaps it's best to not be explicit. And you'd better believe I'm taking it *damned* seriously.

What more is there to say, he (Obamugabe) is your typical government loving worthless bureaucrat that thinks he and his ilk are above the rest of the "little people". Just more of the same ad naseum, and I apologize if it is a bit cynical, but when the SHTF , just hope that you have been preparing for that day or days. I believe that there are dark days ahead. That being said, there will also be good days, but just remember that a guy and his family will definitely need a back up plan.

Sadly, People's Republic of Kalifornia (PRK) already has assault weapons ban. Ugh.

At least muzzle loaders (including hand held ones) aren't regulated in PRK (yet) so there are some options beyond the normal firearms. Granted, they aren't easy to reload (even worse than revolvers) but if they confiscate the handguns (which is required in PRK to be registered), the muzzle loaders (well hidden, of course) would be better than nothing.

Other weapons to consider: tazer, (marine) flare gun (not legal to walk around loaded in PRK but better than nothing), portable rail guns (I haven't seen anything real but it's getting there), high powered portable, burning lasers (knowing PRK, this may already be illegal).

Less high tech: throwing knives (ninja's shurikens are illegal in PRK), crossbows (much easier than bow and arrow). [Paintball version of pepper spray would be cool but I don't think they are available to non-police.]

Obama doesn't seem to like your criticism, FerFAL. From
http://in.reuters.com/article/marketsNewsUS/idINN2628874820090226

" BUENOS AIRES, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Argentina on Thursday blasted the head of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency for saying the country, along with Ecuador and Venezuela, could be pushed into instability by the global economic crisis.

Lumping Argentina together with Ecuador and Venezuela, both led by leftist anti-Washington firebrands, raises concern in this country, where center-left President Cristina Kirchner is trying to keep the economy from stagnating."

heh heh heh

Be glad you are not Bolivia -- possessing 50 percent of the world's reserves of Lithium. Which is essential for making batteries for hybrid or electric cars.

What was it that guy said in the last James Bond film? "We have already begun destablilizing the government."

Although our British allies have a strange sense of humor and pretended we are just after fresh water. Yeah, right.

John XXXX,

Sorry man, I cant publish that comment. You are right about the “grow some BALLS” part, but you also need to have some brains to go along with those. Otherwise they do no good.
Promoting illegal activities isn’t smart.
I’ll tell you one thing though, writing and making phone calls does work, the problem is having enough of them.

One ant alone can’t do a thing, but enough of them can kill an elephant.

We’ve seen it here ourselves.
A bunch of guys alone protesting does nothing, but ½ a city ROARING in protest makes a president resign. Happened here, happened in other places as well.
If people hit the streets and say NO to the assault weapon ban, if people pile up by the hundred of thousands in each capital city of every state, I guarantee you, they wont be able to do it.

They just cannot gun down peaceful protesters by the thousands.
They wont do it. It’s much safer to back down and leave the guns alone. But you have to make yourself heard and stand adamant in your position.

I understand your frustration but you have to chanalize that energy into something that works.

I had a friend who contacted his state legislator, urging them not to sign on the stimulus package. My friend is well respected doctor and great writer, so you can imagine his surprise when the response he got back from his legislator went something like this. "Dear Sir, Do not attempt to contact this office again or we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. We found your letter to be threatening and/or offensive."
Peaceful protest is the next step I think.
