Berkey Light Water Filters.

I’d like to give a warm welcome to our latest advertiser,
Directive21.com.

They are AUTHORIZED distributors of the prestigious Berkey water filters so you know you can buy from them with confidence.

They have several Berkey models and other nifty supplies for water treatment and storage.

Along with Bulletproofme.com and Our Happy Homestead we have a good amount of basics covered.

Advertisements help support this blog (and the lunatic behind the computer that spends 19 hs a day on line :^) ) So please do consider them when you have to make purchases.

Ferfal... I'd like to get a water filter, but I'm not sure what kind of filter I need. I have some land with a natural spring on it, and I want something that will make the water safe to drink. It seems that some filters work on bacteria and some work on metals and what not... do they make a filter that cleans out pretty much everything? Also, I'd like to find one with filters that you can clean and re-use, so that I don't have to rely on constantly replacing filter cartridges. Do they make something like that?

Hi WATYF, I'm sure our new advertiser can answer that question better than I can but I believe the ceramic filters in the Berkey can answer that question better than I can, but if I remember correctly you can retrofit the filter (sending water in the opposite direction) so as to clean them, also remove the elements and bush them.
Also, they've been used in Haiti with good results it seems,

WATYF,

Great question, the berkey filters are the best application for purifying your spring water. I am not aware of a filter that takes out everything, but the black berkey elements do remove more contaminants to a higher level than most filtration systems.

The Black Berkey elements are cleanable and reusable, and can last for up to 6000 gallons or at least 3 years depending on usage.

Feel free to ask any other questions, i will check back here often.

Thanks for the reply, Jeff. So, if I just want to filter a few gallons occasionally from my spring, what unit would be best for that?

And do all of your products use the "black" element that you mentioned?

If you have 1-2 people in your family, it is probably best to get the Berkey light, unless you would like the stainless steel units, then i would recommend the Big Berkey w/ 2 Black Berkey elements at 250 dollars.
If you have 4 or 5 people in your family, i would recommend the Royal Berkey.

Most of the systems have black berkey elements, but some systems can hold the white ceramic filter elements, which we do sell on the accessories page, and under the heading "British Berkefeld".

I hope this info helps you in your search for the right unit.
